Dear Sir or Madam, Is there some sort of cover page or particular application format that you like? I’ve never done this before and would like to submit a paper I wrote for one of my classes. It’s in the MLA format with my name on each page, which I’m guessing isn’t necessary. How do peole do this? Just put the title at the top and send it?

There is no fee for general submissions to the magazine. There is only a fee for the Andre Dubus Award contest and the Betsy Sholl Award contest.

Does work submitted for (w)holeness contest have to be previously unpublished?

You must pay to enter the Betsy Sholl Award, however – USM students are free to enter the Dos Cosas award without paying a fee. Both contests have now closed though

I was under the erronius impression–apparently–that submission was free for USM students? Is that incorrect?

Great questions.
If you chose to submit something listed under your portfolio on an authors website – we would ask that you remove it from the website. If the story is not accepted, you are free to do with it as you wish.
The Andre Dubus Contest is open to the public, so anyone can apply so long as they send their entry fee along as well. We want your name on page one of your story as well as on your cover sheet.

I have a few questions about the short fiction contest. First, if an author posted his/her work on a writer’s website on their portfolio, is this considered previously published? Also, the guidelines say that the author’s name should only be printed on the first page of each manuscript. Is the information page that is to be submitted with it the first page, or is it the actual “page one” that is also supposed to have the name? I am not at school at this time. Am I still eligible? Thank you for your help.
